Spring is a wonderful time to visit Stockhom, Sweden. After a cruel winter, the city is just beginning to come back to life, and the culinary scene feels invigorated as well. Reinvention has hit the best restaurant in Stockholm, the Restaurant Riche, as well as Frantzen/Lindeberg and chef hangout Rolfs Kok.
While cured salmon, pickled herring, blood pudding and meatballs remain local staples, the greenmarket movement is having a big impact in this city. No area of Stockholm is more abuzz in the spring then Sodermalm. This used to be a decrepit district in the south, but now the streets are alive with fashion boutiques, art spaces, restored architectural gems, and glam boutique hotels. Craft cocktail bars and trendy restaurants abound, like the Sodra Bar and Kitchen and the industrial-chic Gondolen.

The best restaurants in Stockholm, Sweden feature some amazing desserts, many of which are local specialties. There is a large variety of desserts and sweets available, so travelers will have no problem finding an abundance of cakes, cookies, pies and other pastries. A local favorite is something called a chokladboll (chocolate ball), which is a round butter ball flavored with vanilla and containing cocoa, oatmeal, and sugar then topped in coconut flakes or pearl sugar.
Punschrulle is another smaller, cylindrical dessert that is covered in green marzipan with the ends dipped and sealed in chocolate. The inside of this pastry contains a mixture of butter, cocoa, and crushed cookie bits flavored with a very sweet punsch liqueur. Prinsesstarta (Princess cake) is a large sponge cake that is layered with custard and whipped cream, and normally topped with green marzipan and powdered sugar.
